Family Support Worker
Program
Nil/tu,o Child and Family Support Workers
continue their ongoing support to all the communities in the way
of one to one counseling and recreation with children. There are
also special events with families and groups.
Family Support Workers are skilled in
providing children the tools they need to effectively,
communicate, play, and learn about their culture.
They also help children understand the
implications of grief and loss and the adjustments that
sometimes need to be made when families change.
Support is offered in a non structured
environment, usually while participating in an activity that the
child enjoys such as a traditional craft making project or crab
fishing or sports. Workers also liaise with health professionals
and school personnel and want to work with the child in his or
her own community.
All contact with the child is voluntary
through the parent and is to be made through a contract agreed
upon by a Nil/tu,o Social Worker, Family Support Worker and the
parents of the child.
The Family Support team continues to
develop new programs and special events, please keep in touch
with our Upcoming Events to see
what’s new.
